The new memorial to the RAF airmen, who were born in Pilsen – Karlov, will be unveiled on May 6 at 2.30 PM at the Sokol Hall commemorating the names of Oldřich Hořejší, Stanislav Peroutka, Miloslav Petr, Karel Pošta, Jiří Schwarz, Vilém Soukup and Jindřich Zářecký.
Oldřich Hořejší and Vilém Soukup were pilots of the 311th Czechoslovak bomber squadron, Stanislav Peroutka, Miloslav Petr pilots of the 310th Czechoslovak Squadron, Karel Pošta and Jindřich Zářecký pilots 312th Czechoslovak fighter squadron and Jiří Schwarz pilot of the 56th Operational Training Unit. Three of them lost their lives, four left Czechoslovakia to avoid the communist persecution.
The memorial will be unveiled with the participation of family members Miloslav Petr, Karel Pošta and Stanislav Peroutka. The event was supported by the Pilsner Urquell Grant Program. The memorial was built and the accompanying program was prepared by the Military History.
Part of the commemoration is also the RAF camp, located during the Freedom Day at U Zvonu. It will feature RAF pilots and WAAF members, several exhibitions of Czechoslovak pilots int the RAF.
